There was and article/thread on here a while back thats not here now or at least I can't find it with the search engine. It had some good information in it. It even had a sound bite on it so that you could hear the differences.
Since its not here do Ric's have 250 control pots or 500?
There was also some information about what caps to use and a wiring diagram on where to enstall them that would be nice to see again?
I am thinking of changing the pickguards on my 2003 Ric 360/6 in Montezuma. So while I was at it then it would be a good time to make some changes under the hood.

I looked on the Ric site. It looks as though the volume pots are 250's so adding 500's would help.
However the thread that was on here showed much greater knowledge than just that.

Who makes Ric pots? Are they basically the same for all guitars?

just get a good quality pot ... Ric single coils usually use 250k for volume and 500k for tone ... Ric humbuckers use all 500k pots ...

if you want a wide open sound try 500k volume pots on a single coil and 1000k pots on a humbucker ... this will give the bass/guitar a wide open sound ...

I was replacing my High Gain Pup's on my 360/12. To Be on the safeside I check the schematics on the Rickenbacker web sight. In case I had any problems I sent an E-mail to Rickenbacker regarding genuine Rickenbacker replacement pots. They directed me to this sight. http://www.the-music-connection.com/ric.htm

Now this is kinda what I was talking about. Sounds like I need to change my Highgains volume pots in my Ric 360 to 500's and remove the 250's.. That would take away some of the darkness on my neck pickup and open up the bridge even more. Sound right?
Has any one ever heard of a mod to a tone pot that takes it out of line at the most highest setting? I suspose the equalavent of going to a 1 meg but while still having a 500.

I would leave the tone pot in ... but try a 350k pot or a 500k pot or a 1000k pot for a volume ... if you don't like it then reverse it ... single coils usually sound better with 250k volume pots and humbuckers usually sound better with 500k volume pots ... and 1000k ohm pots give you a wide open sound ...

the smaller the number of the pot the more treble it rolls off and the warmer it sounds ...

Thanks Jeff and Dale. I think that the highgains may be just too much pickup for the 250 volume pots. Sort of like a humbucker that sounds dark on the neck position.
Its just a bit too dark to suit me. I can get around it by rolling the fifth knob all the way to the left but I have a feeling that the 500 volume control pot would help the sound more so that the fifth control could then be used to make the sound more full.
I would buy other pots for the tone ones and keep the orginals if I do the mod to them. The 500 pots in this mod actually serve just like regular five hundred pots until you reach the full up position then there is a noticable notch.
Its susposed to be unlimited resistance then as though there is no pot at all. It sounds good in theory and seems to be at least worth trying anyway.
The thread that was on here before talked about a special cap that was used too that changed the tone for the better too. At least thats what the thread said. It also went in some detail as to where this cap goes?
Perhaps its somewhere in my musical notes?

What is meant by this more open sounding? Does it mean that there is less compresion or does it mean that the frequencies are boardened up more?

more wide open .... hmmm ... sorta like 85 miles an hour with all the windows rolled down ... sorta edgy ... all of the harmonics and frequencies your strings and pickups can generate ... the opposite of smooth and gentle ... raw ...
