OK,I'm an old timer and used to love the old round sound. EBO with nylon strings, Fender P with flats. Sunn 100 watt head with a Plush 2x15 Cab. That was in my Navy days.

I am now playing through an Eden Traveller with a 210T cab. Ok, in the past, I have tried an Ampeg Ba 115, another amp with 2 12's but I don;t remember the brand. a Peavey that had 1 10 and 1 18 in it. and the Eden. The church I play in is 70 feet long, about 25 feet wide and is metal. It's a converted, portable school trailer now on a foundation.

The 18 and 10 were awful. Nothing but mud in that environment, no place for the air to go I guess. Kinda the same with the 15. The 2 12's weren't too bad, but I got snobbish when I got my Pedulla and went for Eden! Now that I have a Ric, I want to get an Ampeg again. I'm thinking of the ba 210sp. I just tried out a Hartke 1 x12 and it felt loose. I think the 10's finally have converted me.

Don't get me wrong, I still go for the rounder sounds. I don't slap or pop and I HATE too much mids or highs. I just want punch, so I compromise..

Anyways, the best idea would be a 4x10 but I would hate to have to move it. Not that I move my Eden (twice in the 7 years I have owned it)!

I'm sure this has come up before but I'm a newbie so forgive me if this is boring stuff!

I'm selling my mustang to get a ranger so I can purchase an 8x10 cabinet.
I'm probably also crazy.

I use 8 x 10's all the time, Ampegs and that is also a prime consideration in what kind of car I buy. I get plenty of bottom and a nice round sound if I want from Ampeg 10's, 2 x 10's just don't do it for me though, I need at least a 4 x 10 cab.

Hey Charly, I don't know what kind of vehicle you drive, but I drive a middle-aged Crown Victoria, and my Ampeg 4x10 cabinet will fit in the trunk with the trunklid closed...haha. Like Bob, it was actually a consideration in the kind of car I bought. That 4x10 is a heavy sucker, though; I'm not a small man, but that sucker really takes 2 if there are any stairs or long carries involved.

A good 4x10 is a good all around combination. Punchy with clarity.

I went for light weight and portability, so I bought two Aguilar GS112 cabinets. They come very close to matching my Ampeg SVT410HLF cabinet for depth and add a bit more clarity. Plus, each cabinet weighs 40 lbs. and I can haul my entire rig in my wife's BMW 328 convertible if I need to. By comparison, my Ampeg cab weighs 110 lbs. and definitely needs my pickup to haul it. And I don't anyone around to help me load it, so the Aguilars make good sense to me.

for some reason 12's seem better for guitar ... 15's can get boomy ... and 18's can lack high end response ...

I went the same route as Ron and got several smaller cabinets. I have a Mesa Boogie 2x10 and two 1x15's.....I'd rather make several annoying trips than have one major hassle with a giant refrigerator (I've done that in the past). Plus I can get everything into the back of my VW hatchback.

My opinion would be to get either 2-2x10 cabinets or a 2x10 and 1x15. You can always try a second Eden cabinet rather than selling it to get Ampeg. Any 2x10 by itself would sound better with a little help.

Lately I've been going through cabs trying to find a combination that sounds good and is lightweight, as an old guy like me has to be careful and my bandmates are even older than I!

I'm now using Avatar 2-10 and 1-15 NEO cabinets with the lighter NEO magnets. Quite manageable weightwise, and I think they sound great at a very reasonable price. The 2-10 cab especially should fit in the front seat of most cars. I've also heard people rave about the Avatar 2-12 cab by itself, but I've never heard one. Some people have been doing crossover mods to the Avatar cabs, but I haven't found any reason to when using a Rick.

Les, I've the 4x12 version of the Avatar 2x12. And love it. My next cabinet will probably be one of the 2x12's and a 2x10 to match.

Even though it's heavy, the tone and punch from the 4x12 is fantastic. I had Dave at Avatar fit Eminence Kappa Pro's to mine, and then when I got it I calculated and then ported it myself.

I may look at getting a pair of empty 2x12 carcasses and moving my Kappa's over to smaller 2x12 cabinets.

I've been using the 4x12 since 2002 with no problems.

How much wattage would you want your bass amp head to have to drive the Ampeg 9X10? Also, do you have a preference for a make of towel as well?

umm .. SVP III Pro Preamp feeding a Crown K2 in bridged mono should do nicely.

200, 300, even 100 watts will drive either an 8 x 10 or a 9 x 10 Ampeg easily. They are fairly efficient especially compared to the smaller cabs mentioned here.
Incidently I fit a 8 x 10 in the back of a 4 door 94 Cutless, haha! I took the back seat out. It fit with the seat in but I couldn't get both upright and cab in at the same time. That's the new style not the older big ones. Also an upright and a Ric and one or two heads, suitase, stands etc. My wife actually fits too.

Oh any towel will do as long as it's clean.
