Hi All,
This is my first post, (long time RIC fan,)
For the record, what is this? Prototype, Ric factory custom, or home made?
Thanks
Dave

Similar to a 4080, but backwards. Interesting.

Actually I always thought the 4080/12 was backwards as I saw Mike's first! In '72 during Genesis' first US tour.
Welcome Dave to the forum.

So there is/was a Ric custom shop. You just have to be the stature of a Mike Rutherford to get any service!
That's OK, I like my stock Ricks just fine!

Perhaps this will shed a little light on the crafting of
Rutherford's doubleneck.

I don't know when it happened (some time in the 80's perhaps 90's?) but RIC refocused it's resources more or less for production-only. This means that most custom orders and non-warranty repairs will be declined. Yes, there was a time when you could order pretty much anything you could imagine. But to survive the onslaught of cheap asian imports, and perhaps changing player tastes, certain concessions had to be made by RIC managment. It is a trade off. As a result, all Ricks are still made on US soil. RIC is the only major US guitar brand to not resort to foreign production to remain viable.

Now that I think about it, it was probably in the 90's because RIC did an out of warranty repair for me in '87.

Mike had that made when he was still an unknown bassist in an unknown band!
