I'm considering this one as a player, although it would also make a nice addition to the collection. Maybe add a toaster and slap some flats on it?

Pretty bass. The price is perhaps a bit high.

Do you have a ballpark guess of its value, Ted?

Well, it's nice, but it's not Fireglo !!!

Don't worry, Jim. Fireglo is well-represented in my arsenal in the form of my 4003, 360/12 and my 4001C64 (on order). However, mapleglo is underrepresented with only the v63

Ron, if it matters to you, you should inquire about whether that bass in a set-neck. Looks exactly like my '84 4001S which is set-neck, not that it matters but it may matter to you.
OK, just read the description again.

It is a set neck. I found a photo showing the back.

Ron:
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but the bridge assembly on that 4001S is not Rickenbacker-made.

I think the bridge pickup surround looks a little squarish for the year. I also noticed the upper horn doesn't look quite right.
Maybe the horn was sanded, and maybe the pickup ring is from an older 4001?

And actually that neck is too light unless it is the photo or it has been sanded or is something else.

I looked at the 4001s's on the Rickbeat site and decided to pass on this one. It seems like there are too many suspicious things with it to make me want to even inquire about it. Thanks.

I would figure an S in good to excellent shape to be in the $900-$1100 range. This one is very nice. Perhaps you could use Sergio's observation as an argument for a lower price.

I think you should go for the one with the rosewood board, very nice and the price is right, too.
