The wait is killing me

This is my first time posting here. I have been hanging out for awhile now reading and soaking up the atmosphere. A few weeks ago I decided to correct a mistake I made 24 years ago. When I was 17 I bought my first real Bass. It was at Kennally Keys in Mountlake Terrace Wa. They had two that I was lusting after a used 4001JG and a new Fender P-bass Special Candy appel red with brass hardware. I went with the Fender. I played it for a few years before selling it. Life happens. Wound up quiting playing music for too long. This last winter I got talked into playing again in a jam session. My fingers hurt, I was a little frustrated that couldn't play as well as I used to but I was bit. The next day I went out and bought a Schector C-4 and the Behringer Amp and 410 Cab. I was BACK! I was playing 3-4 hours a day. The weekly jam got me a slot in a cover band. I was not real happy with the Behringer Amp so I went out and got the Ampeg SVT 4. Still have the Behringer amp as a back up. I'm blown away by how much fun I'm having playing so I joined a original band. Hauling my cab around is a bear so I was on the lookout for another cab so while in GC to buy blank sheet music I found a used Ampeg pr410 cab. No more hauling cabs around. Now I am playing 5 nights a week with 2 bands. The Schecter after setting the neck and intonation is a pretty good bass but... I start looking around at different basses. I was starting to think how I could swing an Alembic. I was down at Bass NW talking to Aaron about basses and he mentioned Rickenbacker while talking. I got home and could not get the idea of a Rickenbacker out of my head. I started thing about my favorite players and most of them played a Rickenbacker. So the next weekend I was back at Bass NW and ordered and payed for a New 4003JG. I was informed at the time that the wait was a few months. But that there was a possibility that they might have one on order and that if it was not spoken for it was mine. I called the next tuesday and was informed that there was indeed one on order and that it would be mine And that it was expected in only a few weeks. That was two weeks ago. Man the wait is killing me. I know I have rambled on here a bit but I figured that if anyone would understand it would be you.

Oh man, you need to be tied down. I can relate! I left the bass between 74 and 94 and it was so cool to get back involved again. My gig is at church and I just got my first Ric a month ago! FIW it's an 87 4003JG...

Waiting a few weeks....child's play. Try waiting 4.5 years for a Ric !

.
A few weeks is great and you'll be thrilled when you get it. The guys at Bass NW are a good bunch to deal with so you are good to go.
Congrats on getting back into playing and on the new JG....great choice !

Welcome to the Forum, Scott! I think that you have written just Chapter 1 of a greater story. I'm just a hack bass player, but some of my RIC basses just feel so good in my hands. I am sure that your wait will be worth it!

I feel for you, man. I am going thru the same thing right now, waiting for a 4003BBR! I know people like Brian have waited MUCH longer, but every day I wonder, will this be the day I find out it's on it's way?? Welcmoe to the forum, Scott, and congrats on getting back into playing, it is good for the soul, as you are finding out!!

I'm going to have to duck...
When I ordered my 650 Dakota in 2001 I was told "6 months or more". It came in two weeks later.
When I was gassing for a Laredo I was prepared to wait a year for a custom order...then a 2004 FG popped up at POTR's and I grabbed it. Didn't even have to wait a week!
Sometimes some folks get lucky when buying Ricks...

Ed, that just gives us all hope.

No ducking required!

I can almost relate.
Having FINALLY found a bass, now I'm stuck holding out for a 401K cashout. Not enough to roll over... but with any luck I'll still be playing The '77 4001JG I found when I retire, so in a way I think it works out!
If I send them a subscription to the beer-of-the-month club, do you think they'll work faster?

I think Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon has a subscription to the Beer of the Month Club....so while your Ric may get made faster it may look freakish

If that's the case, jokes could be made about my Jetglo 4001 showing up Mapleglo...
But I'm not touching that one!
