Lapsteel Horseshoe same as Bass?

I'm thinking of buying a lapsteel off the bay, take out the Horseshoe to use as a Bass Guitar Trebble pickup.
Good idea? Bad idea? Anyone done this?
I dis-like the thought of destroying ANY instrument just for the pickup but as Ric does not offer a replacement Horseshoe (a REAL on) I'm left with little choice.
(I won't burn-in-Hell for this, will I?) LOL

I think folk around here have done that...I don't think eternal damnation is a penalty for this.
You might be able to get that lapsteel cheaper than a new horseshoe PU might cost you by itself.

I have done it and it works nicely. The procedure I used was posted here as a project about a year ago. You might be able to find it in the archives. The thread title was something like, "Do-it-yourself horseshoe" . There were pictures and descriptions of the assembly. If you can't find it, email me for the details of how I did it.

I wanted to know if the Horseshoe will fit into the 4001 pickup surround, are they the same size. Also, I'm sure the LS will have at least 6 pole pieces...what do you do for a 4 pole piece bobbin? Are the baseplates on the LS Horseshoe's aluminum? I'm thinking they are very similar to what was used in the Bass. Or not?

Hi Ted, can't seem to search back that far. My mail address is
[email protected]
I notice someone has just the "shoes" from a V63 for sale, non-magnatized. Can these be magnatized? (3rd party type work, I guess?)

Andy,
I don't see a set of v63 shoes for sale on Ebay, I've searched on "v63" "Horseshoe" "Pickups" and assorted other combinations, with no results !!!
You wouldn't happen to have an item number ?

Was just going to post that link.
I have taken lapsteel shoes and used them many times. Most prominantly on my 73 project.
