That's actually a question I've always wondered about 4005/6s...are they 30" scale? If so they could be tuned A to A or E to E, like a Fender Bass VI or Danelectro or what have you....

I think it sold for $6,500.00 on EBAY

That is a nice and rare bass, but personally I'm over my VI days so I'm not drooling. I had a Fender Bass VI and a 1960 Danelectro "tic tac" 6-string bass, and have sold both (on eBay). They are cool but I no longer have use for them, and I don't keep instruments that I don't play, at least occasionally. So even if I had a 4005/6, I'd sell it too. Can you think of a situation where you would need a 4005/6? $10K is way too much for a not-so-practical bass.

I have two "old-style" 6-string basses, and have owned a total of four, all short-scale. I would LOVE a full-scale 6-string bass. But I'd prefer FG. Image

"... I would LOVE a full-scale 6-string bass. But I'd prefer FG."

I'm sure Jeff Rath can convert a 4003s5 into a 6-string full-scale bass. Neck width wouldn't be a problem - the Fender VI has an A-width (1½") nut, that's narrower than 4-string Rics.

I really like the tic tac style. I used to wonder where they got those great sounding basses that had so much bottom but sounded almost like a low guitar at the same time, haha!

Right? On many recordings I have done over the years I've cut the bass part with a Gibson EB-2 then doubled it with a 6-string bass, sounds huge.

Yeah it's a great sound. A lot of the late 50's early 60's Everly Brothers stuff has tic tac bass in it except with an upright and the 6 string bass.

Some 4 string Ricks, yes; but my '75 4001 is 1 7/16", slightly narrower. Probably not enough to notice I grant you-
