I have always been amazed that The Knickerbockers were not more successful. Both "Lies" and "One Track Mind" were great tracks in my view and had great vocals and guitar riffs. So why did they fizzle?

Never heard of the Knickerbockers Peter. There is a gap in my education!

With a name like that, I can't help but wonder if it was part of their downfall!

I wondered that myself, there were so many one hit bands back then that were too good to only have one hit. Maybe it had something to do with the many many garage bands back then, so many that the record companies thought there was an endless supply and didn't try to develop any of the bands. Radio was also much tighter back then, once a song was done being a hit you didn't hear it anymore. Another band like that was The Beau Brummels.

Interestingly Peter about 18 months ago John McNally who is in some group told me about lies he had a cd of their s inhis car , he intimated they were going to do it, but it never materlised.

The Searchers could do a very nice job of "Lies" Roy. Thank's for this gem.

I've had a quick listen & I like it on first hearing. I bet they rocked live.

BTW, this new 'Clough's Classics' is great Peter. I really didn't think that I liked '60's music, but this topic has actualy made me realise that in fact, I love it!

Great edition to the Fourm, Peter! There were so many one hit wonders of the '60s, some who charted, others who were 'turntable' hits only and others who never got much recognition. Groups such as the Easybeats come to mind with their one classic tune. The Sonics. And I'll think of more.

Stan: Are you thinking of "Friday On My Mind" as the Easybeats number?

I have an Easybeats compilation and it is pretty good, their early stuff is great. George Young of that band is the older brother of the two Young brothers of AC/DC and produced some of their stuff. Great last name too.

I'm pretty sure 'Friday On My Mind' was their one international hit, Stan, but do yourself a favour and get hold of a compilation if you can. They did a heap of good stuff and IMO were at the 'cutting edge' instumentally.

George Young and Harry Vanda have written some pretty good stuff since. Poor old Stevie Wright is a wreck - drugs, alcohol, MS, etc.

Friday on my mind is probably my favourite '60's song ever. I am going to do a rock version of it to play in my band 'The Rampant Carnivores'.

I love that song! Thought for sure that they were English when I was young.
