Has Rickenbacker ever offered an option for a darker finished fingerboard for any of its current or past models? It would go great with jetglo and possibly the new blueburst.

Dan, do you mean a darker type of fingerboard wood (like ebony, etc.), or a dark stained wood?

That's a good question you've got there, whether a darker fingerboard has ever been an option. I don't know if it's ever been offered, but I'm sure others here will....

Dan and Dean: The Rickenbacker Model 4002 bass had an ebony fretboard.

Others of course have had thier fretboard sprayed black, the Model 230GF (Glenn Frey) model being one example along with the Model 2030GF bass. The Model 4003S/SPC "Blackstar" is another.

You are quite right Dan, the black fretboard would look fantastic on a number of models.

Has Rickenbacker made many (if any) models with a blonde fretboard and ebony (or black) markers, John?

Outside of custom work, I suppose this depends on your definition of blonde Howard. Is the maple board with black fret markers close to what you are thinking?

Peter;

What does the "SPC" stand for (or mean), in the "4003S/SPC "Blackstar"?

It stands for Special, Dave and that could mean many things. It just alerts one to the fact that the instrument is changed from the stock issue. The Blackstar is special for its black fretboard and microdot markers, for example.

Dean, I meant either darker wood or dark stained.

Special Paint Color?

Paul: You are the paint and finish man, but I recall the Model 1997SPC and it was in fireglo which I wouldn't think would qualify as a special paint color. My 2 cents.

The Whitestar had a painted white neck with black dots and the same with the Redstar (painted red neck) I believe anyway, it's been a while since I've seen either one.

Yes, Peter, that's why I put a ? after my post. A paint and finish guy I may be, but my RIC history is still being acquired...
