There has been mention of names inside Ricks here before and as I recall, it was the person who completed a particular part of the manufacturing process. It appears that Maria was the dusky maiden who worked on yours.

I'm sure JH or Kenny (or lots of others) can shed some light on the reason for the name as well as who Maria might be!! Image

Check out the 'What is written there?' and 'Writing under the pickup' threads in this bass section.

I got this answer once from Mark Arnquist:
"Under the bridge is a signature that is " Maria II" that me4ans
that Maria was the person the applied two 'coats' of paste wood filler to the
shedua center stripe and to the fretboard."

Orlando's song (Is This The Way To Amarillo) went something like "And sweet Maria who waits for me", right? Yeah, that's it.
And then there's 'Rosa' in the control cavity of my December '77 4001.

WOuldn't it be a hoot if mfgrs named their instruments? Each one. And of course, gotta be girl's names. Only written on the inside as kind of a bad secret!

Oh, my Candida
We could make it together
The further from here, girl, the better
Where the air is fresh and clean

I never heard that one Sérgio (Is this the way to Amarillo) but found it on the web, you wouldn't believe all the songs he did.

Is this the way to Amarillo
every night I've been hugging my pillow
dreaming dreams of Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me
show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weeping like a willow
crying over Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me

I just recivied an e-mail from RIC saying that they do not give out that sort of information. So i guess we'll never know who maria is.And it was tony christie who sang about amarillo and maria, it is the song that is played at the stadium when we score.
