Sounds like it might have a magnetic horseshoe. The ad says that the pickup sounds weak compared to the high gain.

That horsey is the early one, I'm nearly 100% sure. This is mine and they look pretty much the same. Also FWIW the output of mine is also weak, still sounds SO Chris Squire though...!Image

There should be a law against posting about an auction and not posting a link to it! Image

Never seen before a tailpiece with the two extra screws and a split.

Could the bassist who loaded this bass up with "character and charm" have put those in his/herself?

The S/N decoder says May of 1988, I think that's after the magnatized shoe pickups. Gonna be tough to find a TRC. When they show up on the bay, the go for a lot! The horns (esp. the upper one) have a lot of meat on them. Not the most trim gal I've seen...

Ive seen the two screws on early 4003s and early v63s which would be the early eighties. And jeff how do you post a link??

It does look like magnetized shoes; the shape is correct for them.

The large gap between the shoes and the thinner cross section of them give it away.

I put it in the Ric decoder and it said it was an incorrect serial number, looks like an early 80's to me too with those two screws in the tailpiece.
