GCrep has a nice white fretless . . .

. . . starting (and probably ending) at $1,200, a little more realistic price than usual for them. Looks to be in great shape. Something strange going on the bridge pickup cavity, but it looks like a nice one.

Nice clean bass. My first Rick was an 87 4003 in that color combo and I would love to get another one. Unfortunately, the bass in this auction has replacement pickups, they look like Bartolini's.

$500 to $700 is a more realistic price range ...

Yeah, but it's LA. That's why I ended up getting mine on ebay!

I just paid $1,050.00 for a near mint, 100% original one, just like it. Discontinued WHT finish and BT. It sounded like a good deal. Beside that, I am one year++++++ waiting for my 4003 BB VP FL. There are only so many around.

fretless and barts makes it worth less ...

That was in for $1500.00 last week, I wrote to them to point ou that the Barts weren't original and it was neck-through and they never answered and never changed the ad to my knowledge. $1200.00 is stilll too much although it is a nice looking bass but yes fretless and non-stock pickups detract from the price.

I'm still thinking about a BB VP FL too. There are only going to be a couple of these made.
Bob, your still waiting I take it....

Yes, but mine's a standard with high gains, it's been about 9 months now.

Jeff,
Where do you shop to set a realistic price of $500-$700, because I want to shop there, too? We constantly see non-vintage, trashed Rics going for higher than those prices. I can't tell you the last time I saw a Ric in decent condition like this go for $500. Even with the modded pickups, it is worth a heck of a lot more than that, and is easily worth your high end of $700, in my opinion. I agree that it isn't worth the $1200, but it would be a steal at $500, and a very good deal at $700.

Give me an opportunity to have a bass like that for $500 and I'd jump on it without even a second thought, and I don't even need one.

I'd pay tops $1000.00 but I like fretless basses and really like white, someone bid on it, haha!

ebay prices seem to get over-inflated sometimes ... gcreps seem to want to make this situation worse ...

in the last few years I have seen 4003s5 basses with prices from $500 to $2000 ...

you can't set a stable retail value based on auctions ... you get a buyer who really wants it and he will pay over the value ...
