Hia. Ummm.... I know this is gonna sound REALLY stupid but, i went to the rickenbacker site and saw a tech painting a guitar. what do they use to prevent painting the fingerboard and the binding but still getting all the places around it?

Dan - The instrument is painted before the binding, fretboard and hardware are added to it.
These items are added after the finishing process is complete.

Jon, as one who used to do the binding on the Ricks, I can tell you that the binding is Not done after the paint!!! Au contraire!! In the case of the 4001, the binding is glued on Before the body halves are glued to the neck.

Don is 100% correct

The wood is cut and notched in the woodshop and the plastic binding installed there.

The whole guitar is assembled and then it goes to the prep area .

I just posted the "How to finish a Fireglo" info ,check that out .
