and man is it sweet!!!!! Even with the factory roundwounds, I was getting a nice rich tone out of the toaster. And the horseshoe had all sorts of bite to it. I loved the tonal palette and the neck felt so comfortable that I suspect it will eventually see its share of carefully-chosen gigs.

Well I bought it since it was in the more unusual Jetglo finish. I have a C64 on order that will definitely see gigging time with my 4003 and 4004Cii.

I hear you Ron! I have one of the Jetglo C64S basses. I bought it a while back from Dave's Guitars. It is a COOL guitar. Great sound and feel. I love to play it but I don't gig with it because of the rarity. I have another Fireglo C64 for that and several 4003's w/ VP's.

I think you and I are following the same thought process, Carmen. I really want to keep my C64S mint. I can gig with my C64 when it arrives. I'm really tempted to put a toaster pickup in my 4003 since it appears to sound deeper than the hi-gain.

Dave, I bought the one from POTR, mainly for the rarity.

I also mentioned to my guitarist that I have a 4003s/8, so now we may add some Cheap Trick stuff to the song list.

I played my FG, for one set, on Saturday;

It is top heavy. If I don’t hold onto the neck, the headstock wants to hit the floor.

It was a 2-hour set, and I felt like a hunchback, half way thru it. IT’S HEAVY

I have owned 3 of them. The one I have now, has great actions, it was one of the last ones made. The other ones needed vice like finger strength, to hit any notes.

Mine's a white '89 and plays very well. I haven't had any weight issues with it, but I realized that I need to work on my picking technique a bit. I usually play it with a pick to get the tones even.

I was in NYC for a few days about two weeks ago, and got to play quite a few basses including 2 C64's and a C64S. I was really getting into that "S" model! It was so comfy!
The only bass that was almost as comfy was a beat-up '66 P-Bass.

I did get to play a new 4003 too, but it felt like playing a log for a neck. It could have been that it was in desparate need of a set-up. Or, maybe it was the binding.

I would have a hard time owning a bass that played as well as that C64S and not taking it out! Hopefully your new C64 will ease the pain!

My s8 is a '98 and plays great as well.....I just have to tweak the action the slightest bit lower (I'm waiting to make sure the neck has settled after my last adjustment). I love it....it sounds so HUGE. It was becoming my main player until I received my 4004LK and now that is firmly my main bass.....but the s8 still gets used quite a bit during a show.

I haven't found it to neck dive too bad....due to the headstock/tuners it is certainly not as balanced as my other Rics but I haven't found it to be a problem. The weight doesn't seem to be an issue either but that may be because I am a giant gork......

BTW....Ron, I'm glad that the JetGlo C64S is settling in to it's new home and it's ownership of you......

You can all ways do this to your 4003’s. It sounds pretty close to the C64 or V63.

It is a little more treblely (if that’s a word?). The toaster is further away from the neck.

If you guys think it is hard playing an S8, try a 12-string bass!! It's like a divining rod....(headstock straight toward the floor). But the sound.....Ahhhhhhhhhhh....fire your rhythm guitarist and get out of the way!
