I'm looking to get a more percussive, thump-y sound (Think Macca on some Sgt. Pepper tunes), and I think a compressor would be essential to me getting this type of sound. Does anyone here use compressors on bass? Any reccomendations on any?

Compression? Pfft...

Vintage SVT turned up to 11! Tone of the gods.

I'd run a compressor if I had to use a (gulp) solid state amp, though.

At home I use a DVX 266XL compressor which can be dialed in to huff quite a bit - I compress the snot out of everything (sometimes a messy endeavour). But I really like the AnalogMan bicompROSSors as pedals go. Those are great.

Aphex Punch Factory. You can really pump up the gain reduction and it still sounds great.
