When did Rickenbacker stop using bolt-on necks, I wonder..... in fact, when did they start!!?!??

4080 is / was the only one far as I know !!!

Wasn't there a 200 or 2000 series sometime back with bolt-on necks?

There were some set neck 4001's, but this is a definite faker, IMHO.

As an aside, the 3000 series had bolt-on necks.

somebody put the treble pickup surround in the washing machine and it shrank before they remounted it.

Actually, I do believe those '70s 4003s DID have bolt-on necks

Figuring that dedicated frauds might change the truss-rod cover, look for these things when determining a fake:
Bolt-on plate (shouldn't be there)
Color of fretboard (bubinga/rosewood) should be reddish; this one is ebony(?)
Pickups and surrounds (varied through the years, but most of us know what they should look like)
Jack plate -- some faker's double jacks say "stereo" instead of Ric-O-Sound
More subtle things such as color, width of binding, body and headstock proportions are more tricky.
I e-mailed that guy last night and politely "informed" him of that bass being a Fakenbacker and told him to expect to have the listing pulled shortly. Didn't hear back.

They added this to the message-
"After further research, we have found that this is likely a 4002 modlel from Rickenbacker. The jack plate has been replaced and there is no serail number to reference. We are selling this AS IS. Please look at it carefully and ask questions before bidding. Good Luck"

After further research, I think it is likely a 3005. Namely, a 39 U.S.C. @ 3005, that section of the US legal code that proscribes "scheme[s] or device[s] for obtaining money… through the mail by means of false representations".

Vintage 70’s Rickenbacker 4003
I though the first 4003's came in the 80's...
It has had some modifications at one point, but we just had it put back to original status
I'll overlook the PU cover, but those PU's are NOT original to a Rick...
Fret Marker Style : Triangle
Wow! Those are full width inlays! On a 4003 (or is it a 4002?)!! I though those were discontinued in about 1972...
Neck Type : Through Body
Then what's that plate on the back for? Good looks?
The "further research" comment is a joke. No jack plate? Yeah, OK, but I thought this was "put back to original". Yeah, a 4002...dude better learn to research a little better in order to pull off his scams. And he complains about "deadbeat bidders". Wonder why he has that problem...
And yes, the FG on the back is just HIDEOUS! Good luck selling that POS, liar!
