just wondering if anyone has heard about this:

The restored version of the Beatles' "Let It Be" film will be released on DVD in September 2005.

Director Bob Smeaton told Archer of 99.5 The Mountain's "Breakfast With The Beatles" that the delay in restoring the movie was related to the sheer volume of film that had been shot.

Before he could tackle the project, which began last year, Smeaton was involved with painstakingly restoring footage of the film documenting the famous "Festival Express," which featured Janis Joplin, the Band and the Grateful Dead on a bus tour of Canada.

The DVD version of "Let It Be" has required an immense amount of film cleaning and color restoration, and Smeaton says viewers will be amazed with the results.

"It will also feature some remarkable bonus material," Smeaton added.

I'm glad they're going to release it. I don't think I've ever seen it, except for the bits in the Anthology. Even those little bits make me feel sorry for George, because it's evident they were treating him as a second class citizen...

It's all part of the history though, so I'll definitely buy it.

Smeaton did a really nice job on Festival Express, I have that too.
Gotta love Rick Danko, god rest his soul. Image

I'm wondering... We all know about the nagra rolls that were recorded for the movie. So we've got these 500 hours of music/talk, but where's all the video that went with this?

I'm sure that most of it was taped with a camera when they were in studio... I'd love to get my hands on those tapes!

The videotape of Let it Be rents at my local video store - if you agree to put down a deposit of $500!

I hope the bonus footage is better than the "fly on the wall" disc of LIB Naked!

Mitch, that's the old version. You can buy that on Ebay also. Mine has 2 DVD's. One is the rooftop concert, and the other is the studio sessions. Decent quality DVD, and worth the price.

"Let It Be" is a closeup look at a band breaking up. Anyone who has been in a situation like this knows how ****** it can be -- much like therapy or marriage counseling. So the film is an accurate record of what most of us have been through. I know what you mean about George seeming to be hammered by Paul. But what I remember most about the film is how much fun they still seemed to be having -- there's one little bit where Paul is singing "Besame Mucho" in a ridiculous opera voice that is hilarious.

I bought the original UA release on VHS and even that has a less than spectacular look to it.

So it sounds like they may adding a lot more footage? Otherwise there isn't that much to restore as the original movie release wan't that long.

I watched it not to long ago and it made me realize how much time has passed by. There's a lot of neat footage and despite it's overall gloomy vibe I treasure the footage. I'll definitely buy the DVD when it's released. Fingers are crossed for extra footage.

I recall John saying that a lot of him of Yoko got cut from the film.

Good, I can finally play my bootleg VHS again without fear of it breaking!

And yes Bob, Rick Danko was one in a million. Great bassist with an equally great voice. I think that version of "No More Cane (caine) On The Train" from Festival Express is a hilarious glimpse at the real Rick.

He is missed.

I have it on dvd here in the UK Also on VHS with 60 minutes of outtakes and extra footage called Feedback experiments shows alot of John messing around with different guitar sounds, and yoko wailing, the quality on mines not the best, theres also abit more on there too but I really cant remember all of this bonus footage theres a cool little jam with Billy preston and Ringo.
