has anyone tried other pups in their 660/12? If so, which did you install and what was the result?

I do a lot of single note and double stop lead lines and am finding I prefer the depth and punch of the DeArmonds on my Gretsch to the Toasters. I tried using a compressor and am not happy with the lack of natural chime in the attack and the drastic reduction of gain when chording.

Pickup suggestions?

Murali, does your 660 have the 7.4 scatterwounds? If so, I would suggest swapping them for the older (early-mid '90's) toasters. These are a lot hotter, with a lot more bass response & more tone IMO. They are more along the lines of hi-gains.

I know I am in a tiny minority here, but 7.4's are swapped as soon as I get a gtr with them in! Weak, no bass, thin sounding, with a marked loss of tone compared to the hotter toasters. I know it depends what type of music you are playing & I know that there are others that will STRONGLY disagree with me. But I think that you may well find this suggestion an answer to your problems....

Murali: In addition to Tony's recommendation, I would consider putting in high gains in your 660/12 and taking them for a test drive?

Should you try the "hotter" toasters and not like them or the high gains, you will be able to sell them to someone here who has a preference for them.

Let your ears be the deciding factor.

I have one hotter toaster I would swap for one of your scatterwound toasters.

No Murali. The humbuckers and high gains are different pickups.

No one has put HBs in a Rick yet? I keep thinking this would sound good. Anyone???

Yes they are Murali. They have the same footprint.

I did a little research, thanks Peter. At 11 - 12k they're similar in resistance to the DeArmonds. Pity the pole pieces aren't adjustable, but neither are my toasters. Seems a few of our "friends" have them readily available at $75 each. I should just become a Rick Dealer - we don't have one in Santa Fe. Of course, that's prolly because everyone here plays strats or teles.

But then, I could always sell them online and to the folks on the forum. Might be fun....

Don, I tried HBs in my CW 360/6. At first, I liked them but later decided that I liked the 7.4 toasters better.

My toaster has the longer polepieces.

I already know what HBs sound like in a Rick 6; it's comments about a Twelve I'm waiting for someone to comment on.And NO, I'm Not modding my own Rick 12 with them, only cause it's a '67, and you Can't fit HBs in those without routing the top to make them fit, no, not gonna happen.A 660-12 would be a good place to try that.
