I agree, Paul. It's quite unique looking...the pickguard color goes nicely with the fingerboard. If only the TRC was tortoise, too. And the binding.......

I wonder who makes them? I'm not that sure how it would look on my Fireglo 4001.

It's very possible it came from Pickguard Heaven. They have an extensive array of pickguards for all model guitars and basses...just about any color...they even do custom.

Guitar Parts Resource has a two-piece early 4003 tortoise pickguard on eBay right now:

I'd be interested to know where he got the fancy tortoise knobs.

That tortoise pickguard looks great on MG.
Paul, check out this site. I bought some knobs from them for my Beatle bass copy that are really nice.

I was never one to want a tortoise shell p/g on a Rick bass. It looks okay on the mapleglo, I think I would hate it on any other finish.
I like tortoise shell pickguards on black or sunburst P and J basses.

Must agree with Joey & Sergio here. Tortoise on a Fender is great, on a Ric I think it looks naff.
Mind you, not quite as naff as gold plated hardware though....

At the risk of seeming naive, what is naff?

Charly, Don't worry, it's one of those English things. Naff is kind of tacky, cheap, bling, down market, poor value etc: etc: Tere is no one word that would sum up naff. I guess **** is as close as I might get.

I don't like tort guards on Fenders, and even less on Rics.
