A real blueburst?

A fantastic looking guitar and different from the stock finish. What I like about the lighter finish is that it is more in keeping with the traditional fireglo shading. At the same time, Mary Chapin-Carpenter's finish is more washed out than the blueburst coming out of the factory and so I can see why the darkened center was adopted by RIC.

I prefer the darker finish, and to add insult to injury, I don't think that black pickguard is doing the guitar's looks one smidgeon of good!

echo to Pauls comment....

I can't wait to see my 4004cii's blueburst finish....without the binding, it should look fantastic!!

Not to say it won't look fantastic, but I really liked how the binding looked with someone's 4003 here. Can't remember his name... But it's the only one that I know of!

You'll have to post pictures either way, I'm no expert on the basses but I think the 4004 series usually get figured wood. It should still look fantastic.

I like the black pickguard. I think it contrasts well with the white center. A standard white one might give the guitar a washed out look.

I think her finish is just too magenta looking. Oh, you were talking about her guitar, never mind! Image

Howdy,

Pretty guitar. I'll bet it'd look even better with a white pickguard and TRC. Obviously YMMV Image

Black certainly contrasts more than white would, with the light wood center.

But "more" is not always "better" in things visual. And what looks good to the eye is not always that which makes sense to the left side of the brain.

Huh?

Paul, nice point about the black PG contrasting with the lighter center of the guitar. I didn't pick that up but you are right. That is the first combination with black plastic that actually looks decent to me. BTW, that blueburst looks like the one you mockedup a few months back, interesting.

Mary's current blueburst is consistent with her previous blueburst custom finish.

Aesthically suited to my taste or not, the whiter center is an attention grabber for me.

One's eye is immediately pulled toward the centre, an effect that does not seem to be equaled with the darker centre.

I love the MCC Blueburst.... Ever since I first saw that picture I have had an insatiable craving for that color, and I am thrilled that it is the color of the year (hope to order one before the year is up!).... However, I like the contrast of the dark edges with the light center on MCC's guitar better than the current Blueburst offering.... I am sure I will feel differently when I get my own, though!
