In the media section of the Posies' web site, they have a TV clip of them performing "Definite Door" on TV back in the early 90s, and their old bassist Dave Fox is playing a 3001. You can see it here:

Dave also plays a walnut 3001 in the video for "Dream All Day" which is identical to mine. Something makes me think that the MG one he's playing in that clip may belong to Ken Stringfellow (one of the main Posies) as I've seen him play one just like it before.
I am a HUGE Posies fan. "Frosting On The Beater" is their best record - what a fantastic band!!

I guess they played as a trio for awhile before Dave joined the band, and I think I remember reading Ken played both the rhythm guitar and the bass (but not a 4080!) on Frosting. I 'spect he must have used that 3001. Cool!

Great band...great songs!

I live in Victoria, so we were aware of them from their first LP. So many great songs, all the way till the end. They had a few bass players thoroughout, Dave was the best fit I thought. Their biggest problem was that they were going against the popular tide of the time. Too often they had to try and appear as rocking as their plaid cohorts from Seattle. This was really apparent at live shows. I saw them probably 20 or more times (and even opened for them several shows), and it often was an unholy din. As a result the vocals (their strongest attribute) were drowned out or not 'on'. I hope they're back together as I've heard. I'd love to see a compliation of the covers they've done. Their versions of Chris Bell's 'I Am the Cosmos', 'Ooh Child' (was that the Five Stairsteps?), The Damned's 'Smash It Up' and Donovan's 'River Song' are absolutely amazing.

Yes it was...a that is truly a wide array of covers.

I only saw them once, at Lee's Palace in Toronto. Treble Charger opened up for them, which meant that probably 90% of the audience was there for the opening band. Once they finished, it emptied out. (And this is when Treble Charger began their incarnation as a commercially successful "modern rock" band...boring).

The Posies were rather raw that night, explaining that they were just opening their tour. Not tight, but a lot of fun.

I think this was in 1997, or 1998. Can't recall.

I love "Dear 23" and "Failure."

"Frosting On The Beater" and "Success" were pretty good.

...BUT, great is NOT the word for the new album (Every Kind Of Light).

All I can say is I hope it's a "grower."

I like a coupla songs, but I'm with you - I certainly hope it gets better with repeated listenings...

I agree that Frosting On The Beater is a great album.

I think its cool that two members of the Posies also played with Big Star. Now there was a great band!

Just saw the Posies last Sun in Chapel Hill NC. One of the best shows I've seen in some time. I think their headin' up north now. Check them out if you can--
