What to do with old Guitar/Bass Player magazines?

I have several boxes of old Guitar Player and Bass player magazines. Some dating back to the 70's. I kept them thinking I'd re read them occasionally, but found out I never have time to do so. I looked on ebay and though I saw some for sale, I didn't see much action on them, so they are not really worth anything. So I was wondering what to do. Should I:
1) Chuck them and be done with storing them
2) Try to trade them for something of also questionable monetary value? Some comics or a boss pedal?
3) Donate them to some place that would put them out for others (do librarys take old mags?)
About 4 or 5 copier boxes full, so they are heavy and too expensive to ship. Ideas please?
Thanks
Bob

I'm glad that you brought this subject up Bob. I have a box full of them as well. All of mine are mid to late 70's through to the mid 80's.

I also have about 7-8 years worth of Vintage Guitar Magazines (tabloid newspaper sized) dating back to when Alan Greenwood first started publishing VG.

I hate to throw them out, cause there's so many great articles and photos in them. They must have some value to them.

What to do, what to do?

Put them on EBay, or trade them for something.
You never know what someone may buy. I just paid $20 something for a 1984 Ric catalog.

Do you have any Bass Player mags featuring Paul McCartney. I may be interested. Email me.

Another thought is cutting out old instrument advertisments, framing and selling them on eBay, they seem to do well. I've got a collection of RIC ad's framed. I'd be interested in some '70's ads from RIC!!!!

I have the August 1995 Bass Player Mag featuring McCartney. This is the edition that sold out and is not available as a back issue.

I also have the July 1990 Guitar Player featuring him.

Both are available, make an offer.

I keep all of the magazines that have song transcriptions in them. When I learn cover tunes, I learn them first by ear. I will sometimes go back and find a transcription (if I can) to see how the original bassist played it or to help work through strange or tricky passages. Nowadays, you can get all kinds of bass TABs on the internet, but the quality of the magazine transcriptions is notably higher. And... since I learn covers by ear first anyways, it has to be a quality transcription to accurately show the tough parts and be of use. Oh, and I sometimes refer to the guitar transcriptions, too.

That's why I keep the old magazines... they're in boxes, labelled by year, in the basement.

Remember this old ad? It was the beginning...

Note the B series bass was a 4003S. Most folks think it was a 4001S.

Cool ad. Then came the V-Series. Thank you JH.

I have that ad as a tear sheet that I keep in my early '80s RIC catalog.

And yes, I was refering to the other Bob! It happens a lot with the various Jeffs we have here, too.

Put 'em on Craigslist. I unloaded a washer/dryer in 5 minutes over the weekend.
