Jacob, have you seen this one.

Seems to be in ok shape for the price, and has a low BIN.

Guys, what do you think about this as a first Ric for Jacob ...

What model are you looking for Jacob? You could get that 4003 or hold out for a Fireglo 4001.

The '74 will probably sell for more than the 4003 ... I prefer the newer basses they are in better shape, the truss rods work better, the necks are stronger, the pickups are louder and fuller ...

I have someone who has been playing and working on basses for about 30+ years. I swear the guy knows everything. The only reason i dont talk to him about it is cause I dont think his web is working and I cant show him them on ebay. But He said that he should be able to take anything i get and fix it up.
He is the one that told me that i should get a vintage one instead of something new.

How much would it take to get it Refinished?

The thing about the models is i really dont know. Iv played a 4001 before. It was a really nice one. And then i played 2 newer 4003's. I think i liked the 4001 better tho. But its been so long sence i played either Image

Total crapshoot here- but I think you'll find that the 4001 necks (mid 70's are the ones I am familiar with) are more slender than the later 4003 necks and are "faster" to my hands.
I like both but there is cool factor with a 4001.

What is with the real chunky necks post 1998 or so?

My 75 4001 is similar to the second one, a burgundy. It has a fairly slim neck.

The FG 4003 looks really nice...probably a similar neck to my Laredo. If you like the 4001's better you *might* find the 4003 "chunky"...personally I don't mind the extra mass.

That Mapleglo 4001 looks like a bargain, wish there were more pictures. If I had the time I would maybe try to see it, as it's fairly close to me. Alas, I broke a crown yesterday, and need to see the dentist tomorrow, so no chance of that.

All 3 look like fine guitars...

A purist would say, "they are not guitars, they are basses"!

If I didn't have 2 new ones on the way, I would have gone for that MG 4001 by now.

I prefer to call them bass guitars. Every other bass instrument has a name.
