I don't think this bass should command a vintage price. Refin, non-original brige, treble pickup etc..

You have to love the white finishes from the 1970s. I hate the pickup and it looks like a new guard to me.

Stop me if I am wrong.

It’s a refin., (I wonder what the original color was?)

The original mounting screws for the tuners are painted over. The pick guard is also a replacement, should be a ½” pick up space. Still a nice looking bass. Was white an option in 1973???.

White was an option. I still don't believe that's orignal however. The bass is worth $1000-1200 tops

Yea, I agree Marc. That finish looks to flawless and consistent to be original IMO.

Hm... I do remember seeing that one somewhere on the Web about two years ago. I remember commenting on the sharp corners of the treble pu surround on it. $ 2,000+ for a thusly modded '73 4001? Bad deal.

Mark,

I will heed your opinion, I placed a bid for $1200.00, and did not reach the reserve.

I’m done bidding.

It's also a late '73. For some reason, the late '73s without all the "goodies" (full-width inlays, checkered binding, split tailpiece, etc.) command a significantly lower price than those with it. I saw several early '73s in the $3k+ range when I was shopping just for that reason.

And to top it off, this one seems to have a lot of mods to justify his BIN.

I'd really have to be sniffin' glue to hit that $2625.00 BIN, but I like the color combo. The checkered binding, white guard, and cream finish look nice.

HEY! Is that Jeff Rath's couch? The seller IS in Michigan!

Pretty cheap lookin' replacement pickguard...it's so thin you can see everything underneath!

Yank that SD outta there & it's an alright looking bass...

I had the same problem with the pick guard on a white on white restoration.

I eventually spray painted the back of the pick guard white, so you could not see thru it.

I've heard here that the white pickguard plastic is inconsistent and has caused some frustration for RIC. My 4001C64S is all original and the pickguard is just about as translucent as the one on this '73.

The fretboard looks way too dark, look at the state of the inlays, they're almost brown !!!

You can also see the additional routing at the neck pickup under the see through pickgaurd. It's got a Seymour Duncan in the tail, and he's asking for his Paypal fee's which is an Ebay nono !!

No way this is worth the kind of BIN they've got on it.

Here's my guess...

He took the pics, went for a few hops on the trampoline in the bacground, and fell off, hitting his head on a rock. His concussion made the BIN look reasonable.

So the consensus is that the neck pickup was likely moved, and the bass refinish is obvious... the sad part is that left original he could possibly justify what he's asking for it.

I hope the seller isn't one of us. He'll probably never come back.
