Congrats! I love mine and I hope you have loads of fun gigging with it.
Here's an idea for you - mine came with concentric pots so that each pickup has its own volume and tone control. I like the flexibility and Stewmac has the pots. I have the originals, but I see no reason to revert back to them and I may do my 4004Cii with the concentrics.

Ron, do you have a schematic for how to do the concentric pots mod?
Another question...with the concentric pots does the PU selector switch still function?
BTW Brian, that looks like a really pretty axe. Rock out with it!

The bass came with the pots already installed and truthfully, I'm not an electronics genius. I understood that the wiring stays the same as the stock configuration. The pickup selector switch still works.
Maybe I can open it up one day and attempt to understand it.

the 4004 is a cool bass ... good for gigging and recording ...

you might consider rewiring it vol, vol, tone ...

I might rewire in some configuration.....probably with the dual concentric pots. That way there is complete control like a 4003. But I tend to have all of the controls cranked anyway so I'll probably be fine as it is. When I need variations in my tone they are usually subtle enough that I can obtain what I need through playing technique OR drastic enough that I need a stompbox. There really is no middle ground for me

I'm still a little intrigued by the possibility of modding my 4004, but I've been happy with the range of tones that I'm getting. I tend NOT to have everything cranked, however, so I might be served having a little more control. Faced with choice between VVT (where aparently you have to drill out the selector switch) and the concentric pots (which sound like an easier to reverse mod) I'd go with the easier to reverse...
Jeff-is that your Ci, or one you did the VVT for someone else on?

Yeah, both of those are mine. Jeff did the work last summer. I have since restrung the Fireglo Laredo BEAD, and both sound great. Interestingly, they now sound best with the bass pickup turned down a bit, just like the popular recommendation on the 4003 basses.

If it sounds anywhere near as good as my LK I'll be thrilled

.
I think they make a rather cute couple.....
