What is it about walnut wing headstocks?

It seems like I've really been attracted to the beauty of the contrasting woods lately. I'm almost torn between the nice finish of a fireglo and the walnut wing headstock.
I wonder if it's too late to change my C64 order to mapleglo?

I don't know but I've been bitten by the contrasting woods = beauty bug too. I love my fireglo 4003 but have been thinking "Mapleglo" for a few weeks now.

the question is ... Why does Rickenbacker ever make an instrument without walnut headwings?

Jeff is right on. I'd love to see walnut wings an option on all Fireglos, Bluebursts, Mapleglos, and any other finish which is not opaque.
The contrast of the walnut is striking and really adds another touch of beauty to the cresting wave headstock.

Jeff that is exactly my question! For those of you that can recall, I was highly disappointed when I learned my (then new) 2003 Cii Nat. was coming without walnut wings.
I will never buy an opaque color on a bass that has walnut wings. Just wouldn't be able to cover them up!

When my 4004 CII NAT. came in without the walnut wings; I know that it would not be "a keeper"
I just sold it...........

I'm not sure if the wings on the mapleglo headstock are walnut since it looks too light, still looks nice though.
Jared, I think the flamed wings look awesome too!
