I have been reading here that 4001 has a different neck profile than the 4003 or the Cheyenne II!

I have no way to try any of these out in person (i'm in moscow) and will have to order by mail or internet.

Could some of you with 4001's (assuming i can find a re-issue on the web somewhere) or 4003's or 4004's please post your neck profile so I can have an idea what to expect? Rick site is very good with listing the dimensions, but not the neck thickness ( most important to me!)

approximate thickness in millimeters from edge of fretboard to back of neck, measured

@ 7th fret
@ 12th fret

should tell the story, as if memory serves, all rick fretboards are 1/4" thick...

I've never measured mine (I'll do so and post the results here once I get my hands on an appropriate tool), but my '68 4001 feels like it has a very different (slimmer) neck profile than my '78 4001. The neck on the '78 4001 feels much more like the neck of my '89 4003 than the '68 4001. For whatever that's worth ...

I'll take some measurements on my '72 4001, 86 4003, '99 4001CS, 99 4004C and 01 4004C-II and post them as well. I expect there are large variations between them.

I'll try to do the same thing...You may want to look at the radius(curvature)of the back of the neck as well. It is vastly different from my 1972 to my 1979. The '72 neck feels a bit wider and has a flatter radius....

Al long time ago I used to have a model 3000 which was slightly more oval profile than most of the 4000s i borrowed now and then (never actually owned one) but i'm mostly interested in the thickness (thin-ness?) of the neck as it goes up.

I sure wish i had taken the time to try a few when i was living in NYC last year, they are rare as hen's teeth around here
