I have both the 0030 and 0031 toasters and the only difference is the mounting holes, the 0031 is threaded for machine screws and the 0030 used wood screws.

uhh the bass model is slighly deeper.
the black toasters I bought from you were too shallow.

well too shallow to replace this;
or this
just about 1.5 mm more space in between the cover and the mounting plate. coulda run a longer set of screws but did not have them.
so I powder coated 'em

the black ones are shorter ... but I have seen 10 or so chrome ones that were all virtually identical ... the base plate is different for bass and guitar models ... the bass toasters have threads for different screws ... but they all use the same cover ...

I used to remove the four nut/screws that held the toaster cover to the aluminum back plate to allow the toaster to protrude through the pickguard a little higher. The two machine screws that held the toaster to the pickguard kept the cover together and prevented the coil from dropping out the back!
Not sure if that idea helps in this case.. but I thought someone might find it useful.
I have no experience with newer Ric pickups...
That's a nice looking eight string!
I wish they used this headstock on the 4003S/8, like Chris Squire's bass had when I saw Yes back in the 70s.
