2001 360/12 neck vs. 1979 360/12 neck

Ok, you might remember my post regarding the impending sale of my 1979 362/12 doubleneck. I intend to replace it with two separate guitars and didn't want to sell it until I acquired at least one of the replacements.
Well, I just got one replacement; a 2001 360/12 and I have to say that the neck just isn't as nice as on the doubleneck. Not only is the fingerboard a bit wider and the neck slightly thicker, but the shape of the neck just isn't as comfortable. It feels more like a holding a sawn-in-half 2" dowel. The necks on the 362/12 feel quite slim.
Is this how the necks are made these days, or do I have a lemon?

No, the necks on most Ricks seem to have gotten a little thicket / rounder over the years. I know the same for 4003 basses, from the older 4001's that had slimmer necks, to the newer ones that are a little fatter. There also seems to be a little variation from year to year. If this is an important issue for you, I'd like to direct you to somewhere that you can play a lot of different ones, but I dont know where that is!!!!!! Maybe some can give their observations on a "good year" here...
