A mate of mine has just discovered these and thinks they are superb. Apparently they are coated with something or other that makes them 'stay fresh' for longer. Has anyone had any experience with them (Rick or otherwise)?

I like them on my acoustics, but not my electric
guitars. Not chimey enough.

My friend loved them on his acoustic but was also very happy with them on his Les Pauls.

He doesn't own a Rickenbacker....

There are two types, Rob. Nanoweb and another, the name of which escapes me at present. I agree with Keith. I use the Nanoweb 11-52s exclusively on my acoustic - much smoother than phosphur bronze and last 3 to 4 times longer. Mind you, they cost 2 to 3 times as much! My Brian Moore had 9-42s on it when I bought it and compared to even D'Addarios or Fender Super Bullets they sounded a bit dead.

The other ones are called Polyweb, and have a thicker coating.

I'm with Howard - I use them on my acoustics and am very happy with them. The extra cost is easily (for me, at least) outweighed by the life I get out of them.

I've never tried them on any of my electrics - I've used D'Addario 10-46s on my 650 pretty much ever since I got it, and have no good reason to change.

If you like the Nanoweb Elixers you might also like the Thomastik-Infeld flatwound BRONZE strings. They have a similar (smooth) feel, but outlast even the Elixers. You will pay a bit for them, but IMO it's completely worth it.

I tried Nanowebs on my Godin and my LP electrics and did not like them at all. Dead sounding and dreadful feel.

I prefer DR Tite-fits and Markley Blue Steels on my 6 strings, and Ric compressed rounds on my 12 string.

I use Nanowebs on my Ric acoustic and I LOVE them.... They sound nice and bright on an already bright-sounding guitar, and they last a long time.... I just changed them a week ago, and the last time I changed them was last March, and my acoustic has been getting a lot of heavy play time lately.... Image They're expensive, but worth it. I got mine at Strings and Beyond dot-com.... If you search their site you will find that they put together a special set for Ric acoustics.
