Looks sweet! Never saw one with a letter of authenticity signed by Kenny Howes. They must have lost the original.

Hey Marc, will that make it worth more, less or the same as the original certificate?
Curious.

Hello all. I was looking at this bass today and was wondering-if there is no reserve, then why would a bidder(surfdog) continually bid, thereby driving the price up? It just makes so sense to me, so I thought I'd ask some fellow Rickyheads.

Because there was a reserve, and he wanted to hit it.

I'm out.. (of the bidding)
Without the Cert. it is not worth anymore than $2K

I hit the reserve, which was $1400. Surfdog kept bidding till he beat me. IMO the letter from Kenny serves me fine. Doesn't mean I'll pay 4K for it, but the letter works for me.

Uhh, Mike, depends what you think of Kenny<jk>

I should add that I feel that having that letter is certainly better than having no certificate as it does authenticate the bass as being part of the edition, which is important.

Hey Marc, Wishing you good luck here...
I have no feelings for Kenny one way or the other, I was assuming that the letter was, as you say, better than no cert and no letter.

"Mint and unplayed"...Basically a new CS so to speak and probably over $4K too...

I think Surfdog must have no idea how Ebay or reserve pricing works. Good luck Marc.

In my opinion, CS basses arent worth over $2K with the certificate.

Scott,

I agree with you. The V63 to me is a better Bass, with the same pickups anyway, and will age a lot better than the CS who has tendency to have cracks in the finish, pickguards breaks, etc.

IMHO - CS are overpriced. But then I'm not into autographs anyways! I didn't even ask my hero(Lee Sklar) for one when I finally got to meet him!

I've heard negative things about CS finishes.

Get yourself a V63, have it professionaly refined, be thousands of dollars ahead, and have a superior finish.

Rickenbacker also supplied me with a letter, as I purchased a CS without a cert (from right here on the forums).

Get yourself a CS AND a V63. As for me, a CS was a dream bass. I thought about refinning my 73 4001 to look like one....but I would still want one, even if I had.
