Besides the one that he cut in half, that is the only picture I have ever seen him playing a Ric bass.

Dave: Mike used a 4005 quite a bit all three times I saw Genesis in the late '70s.

4005? Are you sure, I've never seen a pic of him playing a 4005. I believe he stuck with the Shergold doubleneck and a Hagström 8-string (for "I Know What I Like") in the late seventies. What year it was Dave?

I saw Mike first in 1975 right after PG had left Genesis. He used a 4005 on a few tunes -- I know because I ran down to the front of the stage to see what he was using as bass pedals -- the Moog Taurus I, which I ordered the next day. He used mostly the Ric doubleneck pictured above, though. There is a pic of his 4001 Fireglo on a stand at this website www.sinfoniasideral.hpg.ig.com.br/genesis.html, which is all in Portuguese but has plenty of Genesis pics. I haven't seen a pic of his using a 4005, but I'm sure he did -- at least briefly.

His Fireglo appears to have some orange in it. Nice!

I don't recall seeing Mike play a 4005 either, and I saw Genesis every time they came to Cleveland frome April '72 through the Wind & Wuthering tour. That would be seven or eight times (or was that 7 of 9 times Image) As I have owned one since '73 I would have noticed that, but then it was the early '70s and we did kind a party a bit!

The mapleglo is a 360 12-string guitar.

Dave, if you saw Mike and Genesis on "Trick Of The Tail" tour I'm pretty sure he used his Micro-Frets/Rickenbacker 6-string bass/12-string guitar doubleneck which he used for the Lamb tour too.

He also had this guitar for the tour but didn't use it much and after that switched to Shergolds.

So I'm still not believing you Image

The fireglo looks like a 67 shade rather than a 64, but it has the short taper to the horseshoe surround which is usually one of the first batch of RM1999 basses.
It has a couple of holes in the upper pickguard too, where a rest was probably at one time. Good pix guys!

There's a shot of Rutherford palying a Rick bass in the artwork of "Seconds Out" IIRC. Probably that fireglow 4001s...
