Great pic, must be from "Hemispheres" era, right? That's his later 4001 which he seemed to use more from "Hemispheres" onwards. Does anybody know what year is it from?

It's a '77; the first was belived to be a late '73 or early '74. That's what I've heard anyways....

Geddy had a few jetglo Rics ... I was watching my Chronicles dvd and in the Tom Saywer video Geddy is playing a Jetglo 4001 and behind him on a stand there is a mapleglo 4001 ... and he had 2 4080's and about 1975 they did a video playing anthem where he played a white Ric with chrome hardware and black plastic ... he had a least 2 jetglo 4001 rics with the badass bridge and schaller m4 tuners ... the ric bridge is a pain to intonate and the grover tuners would go out of tune sometimes ...

That video always confused me. Geddy always claims that the entirety of "Moving Pictures" was recorded with the Jazz, yet "Red Barchetta" sounds so Ric-ish, it's unbelievable, and there we have the Chronicles video for "Tom Sawyer", and he's got a Ric. Is that actual studio footage, or is it just a dubbed music video type thing?

Red Bachetta was recorded with the Ric ... Geddy said so in an interview ... Tom Saywer was recorded with the jazz even though he used the ric for the video ...

I read that interview too where he stated that "Red Barchetta" and "The Camera Eye" were recorded using the Ric. But isn't the "Tom Sawyer" video on Chronicles a live one taken from "Exit...Stage Left" video?

In those days, he had the Jazz with him but I only saw him use it on the encore, which was 'YYZ' at the show I saw them at in early 1981. He played the Rickenbacker for the show proper...

'Jazz' songs on 'Moving Pictures': Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Limelight, Witch Hunt, Vital Signs.
'Rick' songs were Red Barchetta and The Camera Eye....my .02...

How about Signals (sorry if this has been discussed before)? I remember reading that it was Ric all the way through except "Digital Man" which has the Jazz (sounds like it too). The same page also claimed that the 4002 was used in "Losing It" but only hear a synth bass.

And how about "The Spirit Of Radio"? For example "Freewill" sounds more Ricky than "SoR".

From "Signals", 'Digital Man' is the Jazz, 'New World Man' is the Jazz....

'SoR' is the first recording that Geddy used the Jazz Bass IMO...'Entre Nous' is Jazz Bass...

Freewill is 100% Rickenbacker.

And the Chronicles DVD has them doing Tom Saywer in the studio ... it looks like they are filming at the time of recording ... but they aren't ...

Thanks John for the info. And Jeff, I have only the video version of Chronicles, I've never seen the actual promo of "Tom Sawyer". Gotta check that out.

So did he ever used the 4002 on any recording?

I think so but I am not sure ... I would like to see Geddy get his hands on a 4003 or a 4004 or a 2000 series bass ...

Yeah Steve, I read that somewhere too, but is there a bass guitar at all in that song? I only hear a synth bass.
