Entwistle's 4001 ended up with a bowed neck ... he copped a bad attitude about Rics after that ...

I like that photo. Are there any more? Does anybody know if he used that bass to record My Generation? I hope so!

But he later stated that "Blonde Precision necks are my favorites; those and Rickenbackers. Thunderbird necks tend to be too thin down at the bottom. I get my fingers all tangled up when I go to the first fret."
He was of course speaking of his famous Fenderbirds. And he liked the 4005, at least he played "The Seeker" with it.
Jeff, My Generation was recorded with a Fender Jazz strung with La Bella flats.

"My Generation" is Fender Jazz with flats. After several attempts, and multiple bass purchases, with Dano Longhorns. He wanted the Dano sound but kept breaking strings during recording and the shops didn't have replacement strings for the Dano, so he had to keep buying new Longhorns. After the third one he gave up and used the Fender.
A couple of nice 4005s in his book, not to mention the 8-string.

Hi Kenny and Pekka - if you're interested check out my collection in Bjorn's http://www.rickbeat website - I'm now the very proud owner of JE's old "seeker" 4005 (and I'm REALLY sorry I'm not setup to submit photos here yet!?!). it has a dead straight neck still (but I suspect quite cranked tight to compensate a set of John's standard gauge gold Maximas, since it showed a marked backwards shift when I removed them for a bit of TLC treatment), and is in fantastic condition...not all Rickenbackers left The Who in pieces!!!!!!

Simon, I checked out your collection...uh-oh, I don't know what to say! I almost forgot the Entwistle bass while looking at the others. Did you get the bass from the auction held after his death? A great piece of history.
And that 4004 8-string conversion is great! Maybe you should send a pic (and info) to www.12stringbass.net , I'm sure they'd be interested about it. I also liked the other 8-string you have, I'd do the same string reversion if I owned one.
