The same guitar has been listed on eBay twice recently. The first time it didn't reach the reserve, which was quite high from memory.

The original seller then relisted it with a crazy low Buy It Now price of about US$2000. Here's the link:-

The new owner now has it listed, so it will be interesting to see how high it goes. The last Model 1998 sold for US$6200.

And to think I once offered my 1997 for the ridiculously low price of 3500. Silly me!

Great fireglo though.

The seller's claim of a "crack in the veneer" is total BS. That guitar's headstock looks to have been broken clean off. Like Kenny says, great FG, and maybe with some skill you could get it looking better, but I'd be plenty worried about that neck as it sits today.

Caveat emptor, as always...

...which is why I'd like to offer three hundred American dollars for this fine musical instrument. Image

I didn't know that Rickenbacker veneered their headstocks.

The repair job is flawless, too...I wonder if it was shoe polish or tempera paint/hairspray...

My .02: It does have the appearance of a break/repair, but a lot of people said that about the 1964 360S/12 with the Banjo-Key tuners, which ended up being all original; This 1998 was made in the same month as the 360S/12, and the dark FG at both ends of the neck may be normal for what was going on at that time....having said that, I'd look at it closely before buying it..

Agreed, John. I think I was one of those critics. Still, the very poor quality of the touch up on this one in a dubious dark brown color does give me pause.

There's overspray on the tuners, so there's no question that there has been repair work, only the extent of that work.

And jeez, Lefty, do you have to rub our nose in the "banjo tuner" episode? We're already sick with jealousy! :-)

Pat, next time you're up this way you'll have to come by and have a beer(s) I'll introduce you to that monster...(not David, the guitar. LOL) Well, you'll have to meet David too, since it's at his place..ha

The overspray is a big 10-4 on shop work, seems like it at least.

One thing I wanted to mention is that the 360S/12 has a square heel whereas the 1998 has a round heel...same month of production, May.

Thanks, John. You know I'd love to see that 360S/12, as well as the other cool gear. I guess we'll have to wait for the outdoor BG festival season to finish up, eh?

We'll have to make it a plan for sure....it'll be cool!
