Guys: It is my understanding that older Rickenbackers have a .0047 cap in the factory wiring, and then at one point they stopped using them. In later years many people that visit this forum have asked about fitting these caps onto guitars that don't have them. I understand what its function is.

My question is this: What is the chronology for Rickenbacker using the caps in the factory wiring, and about when did they stop?? The eighties?? Or, did they ever use the cap in a factory application?

the .0047 cap exited from the factory Ricks in early 80s;coincidentally ,about the same time Rick stopped installing Maxima flatwounds on their instruments.

I recommend any curious and handy Ric bass owners to put the cap back in. I was absolutely delighted with the result.

I heartily second Mortivan's sentiments. In a word, my "Instant 4001S" (modified 4003S) sounds "Fragile", even thru a Rolls headphone amp!

I might add that my perfect pickup balance (for a player who likes his bass booming) seems to work out:

Toaster: 9

Horseshoe: 10
