I confess that I am an unashamed lover of Rickenbackers, but I have another collection that I am very proud to own:



Left to right:

- '04 Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue

- '03 Ibanez RGT3020FMDS (more about this one later)

The Ibanez is interesting:



As I understand it, the RGT3020 was a limited release during 2003/4 and only a few came to Australia. I'm told (reliably?) that Desert Sandburst is the rarest of the finishes and mine is the only one in the country. Nice (if it's true). Picked it up new for half price, too!!

Gotta work out how to use all the locking tremelo bits and pieces, though!!

I think that'll do me for a while, although I have room for one more non-Rick...... hmmmmmmm....

Yes, Sean. The neck-through Ibanez is a bit out of character, but I bought it mainly as an investment. There's quite a large Ibanez market over here and maybe I'll be able to cash in on the rarity factor in years to come. When you consider that the MRP was $4995 and I got it for $2499, not a bad deal.

I'm guessing chalk and cheese, Paul. I haven't had a serious play with the new Strat yet.

Howard - tell me how you like the 335 dot reissue? I've been thinking of getting one. Original PAF's are too much for me. I have a cherry SG, which looks like yours, from 1966. A Tele is also on my list.

The 335 is a great guitar, Mike. Fairly heavy when compared to something like a 360/6 but quite comfortable when strapped on. The 1-11/16 nut width is just about perfect for me and the sound is quite spectacular with the '57 humbuckers. Very cool if you're into blues and a bit of jazz!

The only thing that took a bit of getting used to was the relatively square ends on the frets. Rapid movements up and down the fretboard using half-barre chords was a little disconcerting at first.

Regarding the Tele, I wanted one of those before I even considered a Strat (the plonky Squier doesn't count). They have a beautiful neck and when set up with a nice low action, are a dream to play. The humbucker at the neck gives the guitar a fabulous sound!

The SG is a really great player as well, but I guess you know that!

Howard - I just noticed that emblem at the end of your last post showing close ups of your collection. That is hysterical!!! I need one of those on my car bumper!

What a great collection, Howard! Love the Gibsons, and of course the Strat and Tele are classics. As to the one more, Gretsch? PRS? A deep body jazz box, something like a Byrdland or Benedetto? What a problem to have!

Lindsay: The luthier at my favourite guitar shop is trying to talk me into a PRS Brazilian (#366 of 500) but 11 grand?? If not that one, a McCarty.

I'm 99.999999999% sure it's going to be a Gretsch, but a single cutaway Duo Jet style rather than a big box.

Of course it's gonna be a Gretsch, Aitch.

You haven't shown us that road train methane horn that's parked in your garage, though.
