nah... I love Squire, I love ricks, but for me a 1999 (or 4001S) is just a 4003 without bindings, triangle inlays and weaker pickups...

My problem with it is that it is a beautiful instrument. It is IMHO one of the best sounding, best playing, best looking bass guitars ever made. It BEGS to be played. But now it has been reduced to wall art.

For some, it would make very cool wall art. But not me.

I would remove the signature on the paint ... also I would rather have a jetglo 4003 than a CS ...

Yes Ron. If played, the sig on the paint would probably partially wear off and partially leave a stain. I don't know for sure, but I would think that it would generally look worse as time goes on. The pickguard could be changed for those who don't want the sig on it, but the one on the paint is a problem.

As much as I'd love to get the cash for it, my CS is staying, since it is the best sounding Ric I own.

Why people insist on getting artists to sign guitars I'll never know. It devalues the instrument as far as I'm concerned.

Dies and ink sink into the wood, I did it twice, once with a white Ric and a red shirt and another time with a mapleglo and a black shirt, once in there it never comes out. Both shirts were brand new and both were on hot nights. I doubt that signature will ever completely come off.

I know the moment I were to get rid of my CS, regardless of the amount of money, I'd instantly regret it.

An idle thought - I wonder if, one day far into the future, we'll ever see CS refins out there? Of the few I've seen online (besides mine, I've never seen another in person), I think they've all been pretty much pristine so far.

As for autographed guitars - I agree with the Jeffs. OTOH, I do have one bass signed - I can't imagine it was ever going to be worth anything simply because the previous owner had it customized so much.

Those are a couple lousy pics taken with an ultra cheap digital camera by my brother, who had just gotten it and didn't yet know what he was doing. I was thinking about refinishing it in either white or tobacco sunburst, but of course I doubt I'll be doing that now. As an aside, the bass used to be owned by Gordie Johnson from Toronto based Big Sugar - he had most of the mods done (I had pups changed and turned into fretless).
