And the advantages would be . . . ?
Nothing uglier than a headless bass. I don't understand why anyone would want that shape, but not a Rick. Weird.

Well, it's not a Rick...but probably a violation of copyright.
Personally I find it a little intriguing...but only in a perverted way.

How come "Bill Wilkat" is in quotation marks? Is that not his real name? A pseudonym is probably a good idea for someone manufacturing this kind of cheese. The 'horns' just don't look right to me, especially the lower one...not to mention that the smooth curve created by the two horns together just isn't there...
And a Rick without a headstock??? It's like a Rolls Royce with the chrome goddess snapped off...
I think this thread should be titled 'Chuck it out'...

Is that the French Revolution reissue?

Call me awkward, but I like headless basses (I've owned several), as well as Ricks. But then I also like Stacey Dash and Ludivine Sagnier, and they don't look alike either. Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

It can't be authentic. The body curves are ALL wrong, the neck's a bolt on, & it's just TOO ugly. Probably homemade.

I don't like headless basses. I thought the Steinberger looked like a boat paddle.

This isn't home made. Bill Wilkat is a luthier in Canada. He makes some custom basses, and made the "Rickburg" for someone who had a newer bolt on neck Steinberger:

He says it was a "one of a kind" bass, so I guess he isn't making these on a regular basis. Oddly I stumbled on this link a few days ago.
I always wanted an original Steinberger bass. I've met Ned Steinberger, he's a nice guy. My former guitar making partner worked for him and built the first couple of NS Double bass prototypes, including the one for Tony Levin, that got destroyed when Levin's studio/barn buned down.

Joey...next time you're up sh*t creek, you'll be wishin' you had a Steinberger...
