Rick-O-Sound on a 4003S?????

I just bought a 1981 4003S and was amazed to find it was equipped with Rick-O-Sound stereo outputs. I thought all "S" basses had mono output. Any thoughts as to why this one is stereo?

This is a "cut & paste" taken from "article -> bass models":
4003S
This model replaced the 4001S.
Features: No body binding, mono output, 9 dot inlays, unbound Padouk fingerboard, truss rod adjustment at body, two-piece pickguard. (Refer to 4003 for specifications and changes.)
1980 - Introduced
1995 - Discontinued in November

The RIC website dates mine (K9 4026) as Nov., 1996

Here's what to do: Unscrew the input jack plate and look underneath and see if there are four extra screws holes where the original plate was, the answer should become quite clear if there are extra holes.

I saw a 4003S on eBay last year (sorry, I can't remember what year the guitar was) that had a stereo output, and the seller confirmed that it came from the factory that way as a custom order.

It is wired wrong too!! The output of the pickup selector switch is tied together and one wire runs from there to a point between the volume pots where it splits withy the .0047 cap going to the treble volume and a black wire going to the bass volume. This has the effect of the bass volume controlling all the volume and the treble volume has no effect at all. And it all looks to me like it came from the factory that way.

I have a 1982 4003s and it has the standard (mono) plus the ROS (stereo) outputs.
