Alex Chilton, of Box Tops/Big Star, is still missing in New Orleans as of Sun 4th. "Family and friends of musician Alex Chilton (lead singer for 1970s powerpop band Big Star and 1960s rock group the Box Tops) have not been able to locate him since late Monday when he was last heard from alive at his house in New
Orleans after the initial storm before the phones in the area went down. His sister in Memphis and friends are very worried because people are now dying in New Orleans from exposure and he has still not been able to get to a place to
contact his family and friends. It is believed he may possibly be waiting to be evacuated in the French Quarter, which was within walking distance of his home. Please contact [email protected] with any information about his
condition".

This is the latest-good news-"I'm reposting the last message because my first sentence was a bit
badly punctuated...with additional comments..

I can confirm that the owner of Molly's, Jim Monaghan (I may have
misspelled his last name), says he saw Alex on Wednesday and that he
was fine, according to his employee Mike who saw him (I called there a
minute ago and asked). The phone number has been working there, but
not some places. I believe this is the point at which we should
realize that Alex is ok and we should stop worrying and let him do
whatever he's in the middle of dealing with but that he is ok. Thanks
patrick!

Oh, the other thing I learned is that they haven't seen him there
since Wednesday and they assumed he has left, but this is not
confirmed.

I also read some things a person sent me from AP that said some people
at some homes being searched house to house are asking to be left
alone and prefer to not evacuate. Someone who knows Alex well said
that Alex is likely going to only call phone numbers he remembers off
the top of his head while he's at a bar (because his own phone is not
working -- gets an all circuits busy signal). This probably wouldn't
be a lot of numbers that he knows by memory, and he doesn't even know
family phone numbers like his sister's off the top of his head. So
that is a reason people haven't heard. Glad he's fine."
