What do you 12 string players use for tuning up? I've got an ancient Korg WT-10A chromatic tuner that still works great, but it's not as convenient as a stopmbox that can be kept inline.

I know about the Boss TU-2 and Peterson Strobostomp, but I'm wondering if the Boss works well with a 12 string. I don't want the cheapest (least expensive) unit, but would like to get something at a reasonable cost. I could possibly go with the Peterson expense, but would like to avoid spending that much if possible.

Also, as a throwback geezer, my eyes aren't that great anymore and I actually prefer something that has a needle instead of just LED's or those arrows that point at each other when the guitar's in tune. I just want something I can see easily, and one that's accurate.

I see you want a pedal, but I will suggest the Korg rackmount tuners. I have two DTR-1s and they are great and easy to see for us geezers!

If you want something external -and not in your signal path- you might try the Intellitouch tuner.
I have a few different tuners, but this is the one I use the most. Acoustics, electrics, 6 and 12 strings, and bouzouki - it works well on all of them.

Jeffrey, I'd like to steer clear of rackmount stuff because my "big amp" is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (with the knobs on the top) and there's just no place to put rackmount gear. Besides, I only play out at jams a few times per year anyway, so that's why my trusty old Korg has been fine for the most part. Still, I'd like to have an affordable pedal tuner that I can leave plugged in all the time when I am playing at these jams.

And Noel, I never even thought about an Intellitouch tuner, but those are pretty nice - I bought one for my daughter to use on her acoustic. They're nice for what they are, but seem kind of sensitive to outside noises (besides string vibrations) that might vibrate a guitar. Therefore I'd rather have something to plug into.

Steve: The Boss TU-2 Chromatic is a fine tuner and works very well with a 12 strong or any other guitar. The fact that it is also a power supply is a very nice bonus along with a large LED display. It is a workhorse and I can't see how you wouldn't find it first rate.

I have a Korg DT7 which is very compact and accurate. It can be muted with an onboard switch or a footswitch which is very nice.

I used a Korg GT-3 until I got my Korg and Valvetronix pedals. The GT-3 is inexpensive and is easy to use - one with a meter rather than LEDs would probably give you more accuracy, however.

I have the Boss TU-2 Chromatic tuner and have the same opinion as Peter.

I can recommend the Boss as well...but it's also good to have a Peter Gabriel type in the band who can kill time with macabre little stories between songs...to give you enough time to retune...

Sold my Boss TU-2 and now I regret it...using the tuner built into the Boss GT6 and it's mediocre at best.

I picked the Peterson Strobostomp up a while ago and can't say enough about it. Easy to read and accurate. Allows different tuning presets (including Buzz Feiten), direct out and well made on top of it. It's a fair bit of coin, but well worth it. Go to:
