Hello,
Just a couple of questions regarding restoring a 1956 Combo 400. I was wondering if anyone can help me with a picture of a "montezuma" (sp) brown Ric. If not any suggestions on a modern color match. I'm in the final stages of restoring a 1956 Combo 400 and would like to return it to it's original color. When I bought the guitar it had been repainted black and through the stripping process there were small patches of brown (too small to get a color fix).

Lastly did the Combo 400 feature the unfinished / non stained strip down the back of the guitar body or was the back also completely finished?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I'm doing some work on Murali Levine's '58 Combo 400, which is pretty original. It's black with the through-neck a natural color all the way to the tailpiece.

The old MB finish, unlike the 2004 COY, was not a burst, but a solid rich chocolate brown color.

I'd contact Rickenbacker customer service and see if they can help on this color match. Pictures do exist.
