What can my fellow forum members tell about the “Paul McCartney” bass?
Is it simply a left handed V63?
Did it come with a Limited Edition Certificate of Authenticity and Origin?
Was there a production run limit?
Why was it not listed on the RIC web-site’s Limited Edition section?
What years were they made?
Were they sold in U.S.?

I believe it was made specifically for the Japanese collector market ... I think it is basically a V63 with a C64 headstock ... maybe someone from Ric can give us the official line on that bass ...

I recall JH saying they were available in the US.

I believe the SKU number for this model was available in the USA. It is a V63 bass, but made to the specs of how a lefty 60's 4001-S would have been made, i.e. a right-handed neck flipped with a upswept TRC, ala McCartney's bass.
It could be said it is an evolutionary step in between the V63 and the C64...I can't believe it went for the money it did....

The only diffrence is just the nut colour, The C64 is how his was exactly when he got it.. Ive always wondered why if it was a PMC that the nut was white??, where as Pauls was originally black so its not entirely accurate. Guess it was some sort of prototype for the C64 Love the colour though!

Heres an interview about the paintjob..
Paul mentioned why he painted up his Ric. It seems that there was a get together for the four Beatles to celebrate the completion of The Sgt. Pepper album and they brought their instruments. Paul said that they would see performers at the "Bag O'Nails" Club in London who had painted up their guitars to fit the psychedelic era and wanted to do the same. George brought his Fender Strat, John his Gibson J-160, Paul his Rickenbacker 4001S and Ringo brought his bass drum. Now I'm quoting Paul:
" - We got together at George's place, had some beers, smoked a couple of joints, then came out the aerosols and that's it". That's how his bass got the way it did.
