So I have about a week's worth of playing time with the Barber Tone Press compressor. I can honestly say that I see what all the fuss is about. It's dead quiet (miles better than my old Boss). And better, you can use oodles of compression and sustain without it screwing up the attack of notes because there's a blend knob allowing you to dial in enough dry signal to compensate. It doesn't appear to color the tone in the least -- particularly of note is that the high ends aren't squashed. I've teamed this Barber Tone Press with a BBE Sonic Maximizer (and a couple of delays), and I can't imagine what I could do to get a more musical, ringing tone out of a guitar. It chimes so beautifully, it almost doesn't even sound like a guitar -- it's almost piano-like. At $145, the Tone Press isn't the least expensive,. but neither is it the most. It's a wonderful bargain in my book.
