I live in Bristol (UK) and am champing at the bit over this one, but I just haven't got the money at the moment. Looks like a V good UK price to me. Somebody grab it, V nice Firgeglo.

Not to spoil everyone's fun, but the pickguard on that '73 4001 is neither original to the bass nor Rickenbacker-made.

Take a look. Does that look like an original Rick pickguard to you?

That looks EXACTLY like the one I sold last year to a guy in California. Mine had a professionally done neck repair and you could see the repair, but couldn't feel it. It too was an MF#### serial #, but I'd have to dig it out of the files.....I'll check later.....

Sergio, almost every 73 4001 that i've seen (including mine) has a 1" crack in the pickguard that runs from the toaster up through the p/u height adjustment screw and up to the edge of the pickguard.

The pickguard on this 73 looks to "clean" or new IMO.

I'll post a pic of the common crack in the p/g that i'm talking about shortly.

Must have been very common among 70's 4001's... my '77 had the exact same crack until Pickguardian came to the rescue.

Overzealous pickup adjusters, I reckon!

Brian - The 4000 is part of a 95 guitar/basses collection that has now been the focus of an auction so it's more complicated now. I have every intention to keep you and everyone else interested up to speed. Thanks for asking.

Chris, I just bought one from a guy in CA a few months ago. Neck crack very well repaired, stays in tune and intonates properly. Oversized tuners and it had a badass at one point. With small inlays, but with an MC serial number?! If you have any pix please post away. This one has more wear on the back that this example, but is still a cool old bass.
I was going to take it to the UK and try and sell it there in June/July but got no takers when I asked here if anyone was interested...
