According to a news item I came across, the DAVE CLARK 5 are among the nominees for this year's Hall of Fame Induction. Something has to be done to get the lads in.

John: I couldn't agree more, and I wonder what can be done to bring The Searchers to the attention of the Hall?

Massive e-mail campaign? I'm up for it.

Perhaps those who follow the induction of artists could comment on the selection criteria.

Basically it is an American thing, as The Searchers only had 3 top records in US, I doubt they would be considered.

Why not? They are one of the most influential bands of their time IMO.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year."

I don't see that the DC5 can be said to have any more "influence and significance" than the Searchers. The DC5 might have had more hits, but influence? How many other bands did you see with sax and organ because of the DC5?

Based on the criteria Dave has provided for our review, it would seem to me that the Searchers are woefully overdue for recognition and induction into the RR hall of fame.

I don't want to knock the DC5's somewhat banal contribution but to me the Searchers were far more relevant and talented.

Heck, it took a lot of lobbying to get the Pittsburgh Pirates Bill Mazeroski into the Baseball Hall of Fame, but it finally worked. Let's go, boys!

I think the way to do this is contact somebody with juice to put the bug in somebody else's ear, say Roger McGuinn or Chris Hillman of the Byrds, Tom Petty, or somebody else who "borrowed" the Searchers' sound and ran with it. Or, dare I say it, how about McCartney or one of the Stones. I mean, the DC 5? Give me a break. Who's next, HERMAN'S HERMITS? [They sold a hell of a lot more records here in '64 than most rock bands from Britain]. I got honked after the ANIMALS got in-and I liked the ANIMALS, but they were a derivative blues band [Although as a Viet Vet, I owe them for "We Gotta Get Out of This Place"]. Seems to me the criteria they USE is record sales [The Supremes] or obscure "roots" artist.This is bull!

DC5 did have nice dickeys.

...oh-wee... do you all think the Searchers really need that?! Mean, being "the influental rock band which was NEVER voted for Rock'n'roll hall of fame" is probably more honorable than being among hundreds of others. It's interesting and kinda "original"... Anyway, whatever they did, or invented, they never said "Hah! We've made an invention! That's something new! Cool we are!" Never put a (C) sign on it. Which was probably not so wise of them, but good for others who just took it and made it their 'property'. No problem, it happens from time to time... Whether they are in RnR HoF or not, a lot of people still love'em, right?

But if they get in, they can sell T-shirts!!!!!!!

Did the DC5 wear Beatle boots or DC5 boots? Or did each British Invasion band have its own shoes? Just wondering.
