I am shopping for a new amp to get that "piano/cello sound" as I would call it (comparing EBS, Hartke, GK if anyone has thoughts on those through 2x15 and 4x10).... anyway I took this very bass
http://www.the-music-connection.com/pics/r288.jpg into a local music store to try out some amps. The employees start talking about how they sold several of "The Gothic model Rics". I say I have never heard that.. but they were very matter of fact.. Oh yeah, the "Gothic model..guitars and basses, Rickenbacker came out with these several years ago..did you get that here?" .. "No."
The ministry of misinformation grinds on.

Gibson has a "Goth" line. To music store idiots I'm sure that's the same thing.

Peter, when I scroll over the photo above of my 4003JGbt (black trim) the curser says "blackstar"..I am under the impression there is a difference between my Jetglo 4003 with black binding and hardware- and the Blackstar series. Doesn't the Blackstar have dot fret markers, black fret board, and silver "Rickenbacker" on black truss rod cover.. (and does it have binding?)
I'll admit when I first saw it for sale at The Music Connection, I thought "hey thats a Blackstar!.. oh wait a minute.." though I must say I like the triangular inlay more than the dots.

I thought there were two different models, the Blackstar and the Shadow. There are some people that visit here often that can give you more info about the differences. Also and this may be the same as the Blackstar, but there was a limited edition of all black basses made for Mike Mesaros of the Smithereens. I think they made 200 of those and Mike Parks had one for sale on his site about 4 years ago...

Joel: Sorry you are indeed correct. I had the wrong caption. Gene: They are indeed two different models.

The Model 4003 "Blackstar" features include: Jetglo finished fingerboard, black hardware, black pickguard and truss rod cover, 9 white micro dot inlays, Jetglo finished unbound body.

The Model 4003 "Shadow" features include: Black bound Padouk fingerboard, 9 black dot inlays, black hardware, black old style knobs, black pickguard and truss rod cover, block binding, Jetglo finished body and neck.

Sorry for the confusion.
