Not sure where else to post this. It's pissing down with rain in Toronto this afternoon, gas prices are soaring, my roof is leaking....but I'm going to see PAUL WELLER tonight and I can't !@#$ing wait!!!

Dang...I heard the Modfather was playing in TO but I didn't get my @#$% together to find out when and where. How was it? Does he include much Jam stuff in his set? I'd also be interested to hear some Style Council material live without that awful 80's production they had going on their recordings.

Early '90s I rode my bike across town/university in the dead of winter to see PW, when I got there...he'd cancelled.

Ronn: In 1980, I spotted a sign on a Dallas club advertising 'From The UK - The Jam' for the following night. The problem was that I needed to be at college the next day to register for classes. A friend and I discussed whether we should go through late registration in order to see The Jam. In the end, we decided to school and miss the show. That was the right decision, because apparently the show never happened.

Saw the Jam in Chicago in 82. Great show! Wish I had known Weller was in Chicago 3 days ago.

Amazing show! No Ric's, but still amazing. The set included That's Entertainment, In the Crowd, A Town Called Malice, Shout it to the Top (brilliantly done!) as well as equally amazing solo material. I wonder how it feels to know you've written a "classic"?

I was working in Abbey Road studios & was in the cafe, talking to Nick, a mastering engineer friend, when we got around to talking about Paul Weller. I casually remarked that I couldn't stand him, when Nick informed me that he is actually a really nice chap. He was working at Abbey Road a while before & had bought everyone a drink & personnaly delivered it too. Of course, I was immediately humbled & realised instantly that I don't always agree with his politics & I don't care for his public 'persona', but that doesn't mean that I can't stand him....I don't know him! It appears that if I did know him, then I would probably like him very much (I DO like his music ). A lesson in humility that was gratefully received!

A shame he's not using Rics anymore. Perhaps he feels that Rickenbacker & the Jam were so intertwined, that having moved on, it is an image he wants to lose.

Tony, Paul still sometimes uses Rickenbackers in the studio, a 360/12 MG (late 70's early 80's) and a 360/12v64 FG (late 80's). The same guitars that were use on two of the covers for The Jam boxset Direction Reaction Creation.

I must say its a shame he doesn't use them live anymore. Back In 1991 when he first started his solo career and on the early solo demo's Paul did use his 360/12v64, a Fender Strat he used at the end of the Style Council, and a pink paisley Fender Telecaster.

Along with his Epiphone Casino, he now uses a late 60's Gibson SG with vibrato, various Gibson 6 and 12 stringed acoustics (J series), and a pale blue Fender Telecaster. Its a shame he doesn't replace the J series Gibson acoustic's with 700 series Rickenbacker acoustics!

Last Thursday he played two Epiphones, his main Casino (a '66 I think) and a red one that I haven't seen before. The afore mentioned SG, two Gibson acoustics and a blonde Tele for "A Town Called Malice". He uses an old Marshall Bluesbreaker that sounds incredible! I want one!

His red Epiphone Casino is a '94 or '95 model. Paul has been endorsed by Epiphone since he was in The Style Council. Its not actually a Bluesbreaker its a 1974 Lead & Bass 50 watt Combo, and its very rare, he has two of them! His guitarist Steve, Noel Gallagher, and Matt Deighton from the UK band Mother Earth also have one.
