Hmmm, got to say Ken that 2 days is not a long time to leave it. IMHO I would have left it at least 5 before I took any action.
I sold a Fender J about a month ago and I didn't hear from the guy for 3 days. His friend bid on the bass as he was out of the country. He was a really nice guy in the end and the transaction went through smoothly.
I think the Ebay rules are that payment must be made within 5 or 7 days, I cann't remember.

I don't think E-bay has a payment policy as to timeframe or at least I couldn't find one. I believe that would be up to the seller. You can use the "immediate payment" option in which the buyer uses "BIN" and must pay when they bid. As for resolution of non-payment, e-bay does have a process to help you with non-paying bidders however you must wait 7 days after the auction ends to use that process. I'm with Bob on this one, I'd wait for 5 to 7 days before I would do anything. Gotta remember the e-mail system is not perfect and so there can be delays. There are people who just don't check their e-mail on as regular basis as they should. Now that doesn't give them a good excuse if they are bidding and win an auction, they should be keeping track and responding as we all would like. In any case e-bay, as bad as it can be, has it's processes and they help you get your money or go about it the right way to make sure that if you have to re-list it's fair and just. If you use their process and the bidder doesn't pay I believe your listing fees are refunded.
As far as negative feedback, you're stuck with whether it's right or wrong.

Patience is the clue, Ken. I won an auction once and the SELLER didn't contact me about shipping charges (total amount invoiced) in two days. After all it turned out great...!

To cover yourself next time, list your policy in the auction. State something like "payment in 72 hours from auction end required or item will be relisted".
Ebay won't "remove" feedback, what they will do is arbitrate a dispute and if both sides agree, remove the negative part, but the comments are still there.
I would never leave negative feedback before someone left it for me. You're just asking for trouble.

Another thing to consider is the fact that you may be dealing with a store. I generally put "contact must be made withing 48 hours of auctions end", in all my auctions. But I have come to realize that sometimes this just cant happen, and I usually wait it out. Back to the "store" reference, I recently sold an amp to a store in Dallas, which he won on a Friday night, but, his store wasnt open over the weekend, and, on top of that it was a holiday weekend. So I didnt hear from him until Wed. of the next week. I trusted his feedback rating, and waited it out. He was very apologetic when he did contact me, explaining that he was out of town, and had alot to catch up on when he returned. Everything turned out OK, and I would buy or sell to him again.
Be very careful with the negative feedback button. You may be upset about a transaction gone bad, but if you GIVE negative feedback you can count on RECIEVING the same. Even though your innocent.
Thats advice I picked up from the good people right here on the forum.

Read the end-of-auction email that comes from Ebay when you have bought or sold an item. It says contact between buyer/seller should be made within 3 days. Payment can take longer, the norm being within a week. Some choose to mail payment which always takes a few days.

Bottom line; If the original buyer stated in an e-mail to the seller that after he won it he didn't want it - the seller should ask him to pay for the auction fees or a final value credit would be requested and the idiot buyer would get an unpaid item strike against him. Four of those then he's suspended from Ebay. Because he left the seller negative feedback was a dumb move, No Ebay won't remove it and the end-of auction notes on the bottom of an auction doesn't mean diddly squat if the guy has a paypal gripe. I've been there, trust me. There is a service you'd pay Ebay $25 to state your case to remove the negative strike, but the buyer would have to agree to it. I'd give him a negative because he put you thru all of this, then move on. He did cause you to get a negative post, so I would order up the final value credit from Ebay. I've been on Ebay for a while now and I've noticed some rules have changed. The norm used to be 2 weeks to wait for a payment because people mailed payments. Now sellers want the payment the next day because of the Paypal convenience. I can't tell you how many times I get nasty e-mails from sellers because I didn't pay them the minute the auction ended, or I haven't answered e-mails in the same day. Well, I have a life outside the internet, I don't check e-mail 15 times a day.

If you ever intend to leave negative feedback on someone, wait until the last minute. You generally have 90 days after the end of the auction to leave feedback, so wait until the last minute and nail him. That way, he doesn't have much time to retaliate.

I would wait 10 days at least before relisting ... what if the guy was out of town for a couple of days ... and both of you can mutually withdraw the negative feedback on each other ... if an auction has the paypal option then I usually pay the same day but if it doesn't then it can take a while to get it paid for ... I sold a bass to a guy in Italy and it took 35 days to get the transaction completed but it worked out ...

I finally got a hold of this guy by phone and both withdrew are feedbacks,He was some college kid,I don't think it was his account, his roommate seem to slip and say that he had no means to pay, either he didn't have paypal at the time or didn't have the money.Rule 1 if you don't have the funds [DON'T BID]!! Thats why communication is so important,If you don't keep in touch with the seller or buyer and explain whats up how is he to know ,I don't want you bidding on my item if you don't consider it a responsibility or priority,If you don't check the auction when it ends or check your emails tough cookie,If you don't have enough respect for the seller or the buyer on ebay you have no business there.

If I win an auction I contact the seller immediately, confirming the fact that I am the buyer (first name only and my location). I also advise my payment method (if there are options). I've only bought a dozen or so items on eBay, but in each case I've paid (or at least completed my part of the transaction) within a couple of hours. I make a point of knowing exactly what bids I have out there and what time the auctions end.
I had one seller who complained to me that my payment was slow - her terms were payment within 72 hours. In fact I had registered her as a payee, received and entered the bank authorization number and made a direct deposit less than half an hour after the auction ended. She wasn't aware that banks deliberately put transfers into limbo for 2 or 3 days and use the funds for short term currency and commodity investments. In spite of what some may think, bank transfers as a rule are not instant. I told her that her terms (even for a direct deposit) were unrealistic, especially in light of the fact that the auction ended at 10pm on a Friday night. Now she knows!!! Mind you, she took 5 days after receipt of payment to ship the bloody goods!!
I gree with you absolutely on rule 1, Ken, but I think you might have been a tad hasty in relisting.
Just my 2 cents..........

I think the problem is no one really has much faith in ebay any more as there are so many shysters...but then there are a lot of reasons why you wouldn't contact someone, you may be out of town, have no access for a day, not be able to log into your emails (like me with one of my accounts for a whole day today!)
